Melania Argueta

With Bolar I was able to overcome the obstacles

I obtained my Bolar scholarship the last year of my career, and that was the only way I could continue in the University, which I had to stop twice during my career because of financial problems. I am a single mom so I had to decide whether to stay in college or take care of my son. I always knew that being a mother was not an impediment to study, but it was so hard to keep on with college, with my job as a teacher, and with a small child to care for. I was so sad that even though I was so close to finish the career, I was not able to do it. I got to a point that I did not know what to do so I search for help everywhere and Bolar Foundation was the only one who listened to me and helped me. Thanks to them I was able to graduate in 2017 as an Educational Psychologist. It was a great blessing not only in my life, but also in my son’s life. Also, thanks to this opportunity I was able to get a better job.

A year ago, I applied to a program in dual language teaching (English-Spanish) in Wisconsin, United States, and obtained the position as a teacher. This program promotes cultural exchange and the idea is to go to the United States and share about our culture and our language, then return to our country to share what we learned and to improve our knowledge.

My life has taken a 360 degrees turn in every aspect. I am learning a lot, working with excellent professionals, all while my son is also enjoying this adventure. Then, in 3-5 years, I will return to Guatemala and I will be able to share about what I have learned, with a more complete vision of how to generate changes in the education of our children.

Thank you always for the opportunity you gave me. Now I have a teaching license from the United States, which opens the doors for me to teach in different parts of the world. Thank you Bolar Foundation for being part of my progress to get here.
